Google Ads releases GEO Partner Manager role

Google’s Large Customer Sales team posted a position titled “GEO Partner Manager, Performance Solutions” on Google Careers. The listing is a unique job posting within Google’s ad sales organization.

The term “GEO” appears seven times in the list, including in the title. “Generative Engine Optimization” is written twice. Other references include “GEO players”, “GEO ecosystem” and “GEO/AEO companies”.

The listing says the role will “shape the GEO ecosystem to prioritize Google surfaces.” Responsibilities include influencing partners to prioritize Google-owned surfaces in their tools and methodologies, as well as in “model share” analysis. “Pattern share” is an industry term for the presence of a brand in AI-generated responses.

Why it matters

The terminology is worth noting because it corresponds to a different public position on the search side of Google. In July, Google’s Gary Illyes said Standard SEO is sufficient for AI previews and AI mode, and this specialized AEO or GEO optimization is not necessary. At the time of publication, Google has not publicly updated these guidelines.

Large Client Sales manages relationships with major advertisers and agencies. The role’s alignment with the 3P Measurement team places it firmly within Google’s advertising-side partnership work.

Microsoft and Google are in different places here and the categories of evidence differ. In March, Bing added “GEO” to its official webmaster guidelinesdefining the term and placing it alongside SEO as a named category. Bing AI Performance Dashboardlaunched in February, was positioned as a step towards GEO tools.

The Google listing is a job posting on an ad sales team. Both are signals of adoption, but not the same level of engagement.

Looking to the future

The language reflects how a team within Google’s advertising organization frames this work today. This does not carry the same weight as a documentation update, a public Google Search statement, or a policy change.

The fact that similar GEO language appears in other Google job postings in Ads, Cloud, or Search would indicate whether this is a pattern or the choice of a single team.

For brands working with GEO or AEO partners, the list is worth noting. The listing indicates that Google’s advertising team wants partner tools and methodologies to prioritize Google Surfaces.
