If you want to work from home to answer calls or pledges, this ACD Direct review explains how you can do it for them.
ACD Direct is a company that almost always hires in-home call center representatives. It’s a flexible opportunity that allows you to work whenever you want. However, I do not recommend that you rely on it for all your income for the reasons I will outline below.
That said, it could definitely be a good side hustle as you can bypass everything you do online or offline to make money. Read on to find out everything!

About ACD Direct
ACD Direct has been in business since 2005. From what I understand, they hire people to answer inbound calls from nonprofits and accept pledges.
Some of the companies they handle calls for are nonprofits, like PBS and NPR.
ACD Direct Basics
Here are some basics of what ACD Direct looks for in a work from home agent:
Requirements:
- High-speed internet with minimum download speeds of 10 Mbps and upload speeds of 25 Mbps
- Windows PC running Windows 10, 11 or higher
- No background noise during working hours
- Private workspace with a closing door
- Prefers previous call center experience
- Prefers previous work from home experience
- Computer headset with wired USB connection and noise cancellation (no Bluetooth)
- No VPNs allowed when using ACD systems
Pay:
Here’s what the ACD Direct website says about compensation:
For inbound telephone work, ACD agents earn between 25 and 30 cents ($0.20 to $0.32) per minute of talk time. New agents (who have never signed a contract with us) will start at 25 cents ($0.25) per minute of talk time. ACD also offers various bonuses for meeting the schedule and average talk time. Agents can earn up to 35 cents ($0.35) per minute of talk time. We also offer other projects, such as email, tickets and chats, which pay at different rates.
Payment method and frequency:
ACD Direct pays by direct deposit into your bank account twice a month.
Who is it open to?
ACD Direct only accepts applicants in the United States. However, they do NOT hire people living in California, Delaware, Massachusetts, Louisiana, West Virginia, Wyoming, Vermont, and South Dakota due to state laws regarding independent contractor requirements.
ACD Direct Work From Home Review
ACD Direct is another home service call center job. The work was seasonal, but is now available year-round.
You must have prior call center experience, preferably working from home. ACD Direct doesn’t tolerate background noise at all, so if you have kids, it would probably be best to try to schedule for times when they are sleeping or at school.
You get paid for every minute of talk time and the base rate is $0.25 per minute, but you can get raises for consistent good work. Most of the work you will do is with nonprofit organizations.
You accept people’s pledges and must be able to accurately complete online forms with information acquired during calls. You are given a script to read which you must stick to.
Note that ACD Direct provides agents with a VoIP softphone at no additional cost, so you do not need a dedicated phone line.
ACD Direct Background Check
ACD Direct will conduct a criminal background check prior to your employment. Fees can be up to $20 and will be paid by you.
We have a list of working from home at companies that don’t do background checks if that’s what you need.
ACD Direct Application Process
To apply, you register on their agent’s website and submit a video voice sample as part of a basic assessment. ACD Direct will contact you if they think you’re a good fit for their company, and the application process will take place from there.
You’ll likely have to complete an interview and voice audition, and if you’re hired, you’ll be able to choose from several available shifts to determine when you want to work.
Some shifts are expected to be busier than others, and the money you make will depend greatly on call volume since you are paid for your talk time rather than by the hour.
Conclusion on ACD Direct
According to Glassdoor reviews, it is possible to make good money during peak season. In the off-season, when calls come in more slowly, you might struggle to make even minimum wage.
In fact, one person said in a Glassdoor review that they made $4 for four hours of work! But again, it was off season. One of the best things about ACD Direct is that you can schedule your shifts at any time.
The company operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is therefore a flexible work from home. However, you must work at least ten hours per pay period.
What you should consider if you’re serious about ACD Direct
My recommendation is not to quit your day job (if you have one) to work for ACD Direct, nor to work here expecting it to pay all your bills in the long run.
I think if you work for this company it would be best to consider this as extra money or just a short term job with the hope of earning a decent amount during peak season.
I say it often, but because it’s a independent contractor jobyou do not have the guarantee that the work will always be available, nor the guarantee of a fixed number of hours per week.
I recommend having other ways to make money online and never relying entirely on an independent contractor position, no matter how profitable it may be in the short term.
How do current and former workers rate ACD Direct?
They currently have a rating of 3.0 on Glassdoor and 3.3 on Indeed. ACD Direct is not currently BBB accredited.

For More Job Leads – Check out FlexJobs for even more well-known companies hiring remotely
Flexible jobs is one of my favorite sites for finding remote jobs and discovering new companies that are hiring remotely. Most of what I see out there when I check the ads pay well above minimum wage and are well-known companies.
The best thing about FlexJobs is that they guarantee that ALL ads are scam free. They list hundreds of jobs, all remote or flexible, five days a week. There is also no advertising on the site.
Since there are no ads, they charge a membership fee, as that is the only way they will see a return on their job search efforts. But it’s cheap — you can access their ads for just $2.95 for a few weeks to make sure you like it!
If you sign up and aren’t happy, it’s easy to cancel immediately so you don’t get charged again for the next month.
