Data entry

Data entry generally involves transferring data from one medium to another. In most cases, you need to be able to do this quickly and accurately in order to make money, because most remote data entry jobs are paid on a piece rate basis (although there are exceptions).

Unfortunately, finding and getting hired for remote data entry is quite difficult. Indeed, it seems like everyone wants to do it (it’s one of the most searched work from home keywords on Google), and jobs seem to be few and far between!

I think most people like the idea of data entry because it seems like a pretty simple and mindless job. I’ve done data entry myself and it can be enjoyable although definitely repetitive.

The companies I’ve linked below for remote data entry may or may not be hiring right now, but keep an eye on them if you’re interested in doing the job.

Transcription

Home transcription work involves listening to audio files and then typing out what you hear. It definitely helps to have fast and accurate typing ability for transcription jobs, since typing is mostly what you do!

In fact, the vast majority of companies require a minimum typing speed before considering any application.

Most transcription jobs are paid by the audio hour, which is not the same as a “normal” hour. An audio hour is the time it takes you to transcribe an audio hour. So keep this in mind when looking at the pay rates offered by these companies.

Home transcription work is almost always independent contractor work. The companies below typically hire remote transcriptionists.

Chat Agents

As a work-from-home chat agent, you will work to help customers of the company you work for through an online chat-based interface. Chat jobs tend to attract people who are OK with customer service or tech support work, but would prefer not to do it over the phone.

Work-from-home chat agents must be fast and accurate typists so that they can respond quickly and professionally to all chat requests they receive through the company interface.

If you are interested in working from home as a chat agent, the following companies sometimes have openings.

Independent writing

It goes without saying that as a freelance writer, it will help you immensely if you know how to type fast! You want to be able to quickly display what’s on your mind on the computer screen.

The following sites are frequently looking for freelance writers to join their teams.

One of my FAVORITE resources for finding all remote and flexible jobs!

Flexible jobs is one of my favorite sites for finding remote jobs and discovering new companies that are hiring remotely.

Most of what I see out there when I check the ads pay well above minimum wage and are well-known companies. The best thing about FlexJobs is that they guarantee that ALL ads are scam free.

They list hundreds of jobs, all remote or flexible, five days a week.

There is no advertising on the site either!

Since there are no ads, they charge a membership fee, as that is the only way they will see a return on their job search efforts. But it’s cheap: you can access it for a few weeks for just $2.95 for 14 full days!

If you sign up and don’t like it, it’s very easy to cancel immediately so you don’t get charged again. You can do this at any time during your 14 day verification period.

Go here to check it out and see what you think.

Good luck!
