Custom Prompt Tracking and 9 Other New Ahrefs Features I Love


It’s been four months since I joined Ahrefs, and in that time I’ve seen the team release dozens of product updates. 85 to be precise.

Even though I was an Ahrefs customer for over ten years, I never realized how often new features were added to the platform.

Now that I (proudly) work in the company after Acquired Ahrefs DetailedOne of my jobs is to track updates and see if I can offer suggestions for improvement or ideas on how Ahrefs customers can get the most out of them.

Since I’ve overseen so many changes, it’s probably time to share some of my favorites.

I was not asked to write this. I just know there’s a lot of overlap between detailed readers and Ahrefs clients, so I hope I can introduce you to something you missed.

It wasn’t easy to choose only ten so I cheated slightly combining a few related updates, but not too many.

1. Find backlink opportunities and filter competitor rankings by page type and category

Ahrefs gained its reputation, in part, for having the best backlink index on the web. This backlink data is constantly being made more accessible.

Page types and categories now appear by default in Backlink reports and SERP previews, and can also be used as filters:

It’s now incredibly easy to see all the podcast mentions a site has picked up, or all the times they’ve been included in a “Best” list article.

If you haven’t already, you may be able to get a mention on these same sources.

Filtering by categories means you can also find the most relevant (and least relevant) links selected by your competitors. The first would be a good starting point for any relationship building efforts.

2. Keyword research is going global, making it much easier to target popular terms in other languages

Ahrefs Keyword Explorer has always shown traffic opportunities for non-English terms, but it’s never been easy to focus on (or exclude) a specific language.

This has recently changed with the launch of language filters, allowing you to separate keyword suggestions for table tennis (English) and table tennis (French).

Football is no longer my sport…

This makes Ahrefs even more valuable to your content team that is already writing for different markets, or to help with international expansion plans.

3. AI Visibility Tracking with Custom Prompts is Finally Here

Over the past 18 months, dozens of AI visibility platforms have launched, many of which have raised millions of dollars.

Ahrefs first launched Brand Radar to help you track viewability across hundreds of millions of queries.

Although Brand Radar has been hugely successful – and is undoubtedly Ahrefs’ fastest-growing product – we’ve heard a lot of feedback from people wanting to track their own terms, at specific intervals.

Custom Prompt Tracking allows daily, weekly, or monthly monitoring of responses in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot.

With a Brand Radar All Index plan, you already have access to 2,500 monthly checks, but for just $50/m, you can get an additional 2,500 checks on top of that.

To put the prices in perspective, if you monitored ChatGPT responses in the US alone, you could analyze 620 quick responses each week.

If you wanted daily monitoring, you could follow around 80 prompts. More than enough to get an idea of ​​what answers you’re running for.

4. Monitor mentions on YouTube, Reddit and TikTok with the new Brand Radar indexes

Have you ever wondered how to know when your brand is being mentioned on YouTube, at scale?

Or what if the things people say about you on Reddit, before you even need to click on the search results, are positive?

With our three new indexes in Brand Radar, available to all Ahrefs customers (even without a separate Brand Radar plan), you can now get this information.

Of course, one of the first things I had to check was that people were talking about Detailed SEO extension:

I’m biased, but I like that the results include the timestamp of any mentions so you can hear the context for yourself.

5. Find out who gets the most links from top competitors with backlink presets

In the Ahrefs “Backlinks Report” in Site Explorer, you can apply 27 different filters to help you analyze the link landscape of competing sites.

Countless Ahrefs customers have tweaked these filters to fit their needs perfectly, but it can be complicated to save them as bookmarks or manually edit them every time you search.

With Presets, you can now save as many custom filter groups as you want, for quick access at any time.

If you want to know when all the food blogs you’re competing with fetch new links in actual recipes, you can save a preset for that:

Here are other angles you can follow:

  • Checking only followed links in the content of sites with a minimum DR of 30
  • Only check links from domains with at least 10,000 monthly visitors
  • Instantly view all sponsored links pointing to a site.

Whatever your job, simply click on the preset that matches your task.

6. AI query responses have been redesigned to better highlight brand mentions and quotes

Our AI response data still showed whether your own brands or those of your competitors were mentioned in the responses, but was not as easy to analyze visually as it could be.

Thanks to the excellent work of the frontend team, it is much easier to see brand mentions, quotes and response structure.

The team also started using favicons to highlight the people featured – a small touch, sure, but it makes it much easier to quickly analyze the results.

7. View your top-performing subfolders in Google Search Console with the Site Structure report

One of my favorite reports in Ahrefs Site Explorer is the ability to see the top performing subfolders on any domain.

You can find it under the “Site Structure” menu item and even use it to crawl specific subdomains:

For any sites where you sync Google Search Console data with Ahrefs, you can now achieve a similar layout using your actual click data, like this:

Google Search Console is a great tool, but it’s nice to take its functionality to the next level with Ahrefs integration.

8. The new Patches feature lets you fix more website issues without touching any code.

In early 2025, Ahrefs launched Fixesa no-code solution that allows anyone to easily edit title tags and meta descriptions on their websites directly from the Ahrefs dashboard.

Patches have recently received some exciting new additions, allowing you to:

  • Change canonical URLs of any page
  • Add new redirects (or update existing ones)
  • Add or remove noindex tags
  • Update internal links on your site

Some of these features will require Cloudflare, which is the most popular CDN in the world with around 70% market share.

Others, like updating internal links, simply require a snippet of JavaScript embedded in your site.

9. Our Social Media Manager tool has been launched and is free for all accounts

Although Ahrefs is primarily known as an SEO platform, it offers additional features to help with other aspects of marketing, like website analytics, paid search insights, and tools to help with content creation.

The new Social Media Manager tool lets you post to all major platforms, including LinkedIn, Instagram, X, and Facebook, from one location.

Write an article once and publish it instantly to multiple accounts, or schedule it for a more convenient time.

AI suggestions help you adapt your message as you write, and new updates include the ability to see all past post analytics, even if you didn’t publish those posts in Ahrefs.

10. Easily analyze traffic spikes and drops by entities and intents

For any domain, you can now see the most common entities they capture search traffic for and view traffic by intent (like news, local, and brands).

For each entity, you can see the raw traffic numbers and the number of rankings that make them up.

For intent charts, simply hover over any part of the chart and you will be able to see them broken down into numbers.

If a site has experienced significant fluctuations in traffic, you can quickly see if the overall domain has increased (or decreased) in Google’s rankings, or if specific queries had the most impact.

As I mentioned in the introduction, I wasn’t asked to write this, but I thought I should share some of what I’ve been focusing on over the past few months.

I’ve always been open about what I’m working on, and that’s definitely changed dramatically since I joined Ahrefs.

The support I’ve received since the announcement has been incredible, and while I like to think I’m contributing a lot, I’m also learning a lot in the process.

I’m going to write a full update on all the ideas I’ve had since changing careers, but it’s fair to say that I’m really happy with how things are going.

One of my favorite perks is definitely being able to see all the upcoming features in advance.

If the above is just part of what’s happened in the four months since I joined, you can be sure that there are huge features planned for 2026.
