Anthropic announced that users of its paid plans can now teach Claude Cowork a skill by recording a step-by-step walkthrough of a task, which Claude can then use to create a skill that he can then use to complete the same task. This is called Saving a Skill.
Anthropic tweeted:
“New at Claude Cowork: teaching Claude a skill.
Record your screen while you perform a task, talk about it as you go, and Claude makes it a skill he can perform again. Find it under Save a Skill in the + menu of the Claude desktop app.
Available on Pro, Max and Team plans.

The ability to save a skill has been available to OpenAI Codex users since June 18. Save and replayit is only available to Apple Mac users and excludes users from the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. It’s unclear when it will be available to Windows users.
Response to Anthropic’s announcement
Many people who read the ad felt threatened, believing it was a way to quickly lose their job.
@alfredversa tweeted:
“That’s got to be the easiest way to get replaced and lose your job, man.”
Several other users took advantage of the announcement to complain that their accounts had reached their limits, preventing them from actually trying the new feature.
Anthropic’s Teach a Skill feature
It may well be that registering a skilled role could result in job losses. Some might say that if a job can be fully automated without any humans in the loop, then the job might not need a human in the first place. A counterargument can be made that a person’s skills and experience are what makes the difference in the outcome, whether or not there is an AI in the loop.
What is it about then? Is Anthropic’s new feature something good and a time saver or maybe not so much?
