The launch of ChatGPT in November 2022 was a true game changer for digital marketers around the world. SEO professionals are still trying to understand the potential benefits and power of this technology.
The ability to enter search queries through live chat and get perfectly and uniquely written content has several benefits for those looking to create more content quickly and grow their online business. Webmasters can also create codes faster than manually, which can be used to supplement or replace developers.
However, it may also present more challenges with increased competition in the digital marketing landscape and questions about how Google search results will respond with increased marketing intelligence.
We speak with industry experts and startup marketers to better understand how ChatGPT is changing SEO.
Content Creation
For consumers, the ability to create unique content and do it almost instantly is probably the biggest advantage of ChatGPT.
“Many SEO professionals may have been dubious at first,” says Andrew Baker of the financial start-up: Doddler.
“Writing unique content is something that is ingrained into you from day one and anything that is automated or too good to be true can only be negative for SEO.”
“But early evidence shows that ChatGPT is consistent and the content it produces is unique and can rank well if done correctly,” says Richard Allan of Divorce Bob.
“While it typically took us 6-8 weeks to produce 50 pages of quality guides and blog posts, ChatGPT can do it in around 3 hours.”
“We were able to add pages for over 1,600 area codes across the US using ChatGPT – and that would have been a mountain to climb without AI or something we wouldn’t have considered doing.”
“It still takes a competent SEO person to interpret the right number of keywords, content length, and other SEO elements like internal links and titles – but it certainly presents a very scalable way to deliver content.
“It offers endless possibilities for targeting area codes, times, amounts and other long-tail keywords, both nationally and if you were to launch in different countries.”
Staffing and outsourcing
Outsourcing your content and code has been popular for many years, with startups and businesses using Fiverr and outsourcing their marketing teams to India and the Philippines.
“But with ChatGPT, you wonder if you need to hire content staff,” says Matthew Sullivan of the consumer finance site: Harpse.
“For years the question has been raised whether you even need content writers or developers in-house and why pay local rates when it’s cheaper overseas? But today the question arises whether you should actually hire writers and developers.”
“This could mean that thousands of content writers could lose their jobs overnight. However, in practice, early signs show that even if millions of people use ChatGPT, it is a small number that creates an economic shock and that traditional companies still prefer the manual approach. But who knows if paid writers use ChatGPT to do their jobs?
Rapid prototyping and testing
“With the ability to create content so quickly, it gave us an exciting way to test and try things,” says Gavin Cooper, founder of Bible of Claims. “And that’s what a lot of SEO really is.”
“We were able to create content quickly and test different site layouts and designs or even compare platforms like Wix, Webflow or WordPress and determine which one ranked higher in the SERPs. From there, we were able to grow and grow our business.”
“For us, we were able to replicate hundreds of pages for different types of claims, from personal injury, to banking, to automakers and more – and by having consistent metadata and good backlinks, we were able to secure positions on Google and generate quality leads. »
Changes in Google SERPs
If we imagine millions of websites using ChatGPT to publish new content and grow new sites, will we see huge fluctuations in rankings across all industries?
This does not seem to be the case yet, ChatGPT has now been running for over 6 months. But it certainly wouldn’t be surprising if some very tech-savvy sectors, like consumer finance, casinos or crypto, made huge strides in this area.
Therefore, one might expect new marks to emerge on page 1 for some highly competitive keywords, almost out of nowhere, or for there to be early wins for some sites and even worse crashes if they are penalized.
Still need experience and knowledge in SEO
SEO is constantly evolving and ChatGPT has undoubtedly created a paradigm shift and an exciting way to publish fast content and replicate code, allowing new and established businesses to grow faster than ever.
While Google’s rule of thumb that “content is king” still applies, there’s no denying that it is. how SEO professionals use this content which is really important and which will notably change the SEO landscape.
While you can write content quickly and to a high standard, it’s only valuable if it’s backed by smart, experienced SEO.
Understanding the right content to create, the right keyword research, user intent, metadata and semantics is essential – and if you can couple that with ChatGPT, it could be a recipe for real SEO success.
