Anthropic’s @Claude Enters the Workplace as a Slack Channel Coworker

Anthropic announced Claude Tag, a new feature that allows users to assign different levels of assignments to Claude from Slack channels. Anthropic claims that Claude can use memory, scheduled tasks, and access to tools to work on tasks that continue long after a single prompt has ended.

@Claude tagged in Slack channels

Users can now tag @Claude in a Slack channel and assign tasks to him. Anthropic says this workflow is now part of its own operations, saying 65% of its product team’s code is created by its internal version of Claude Tag.

This number doesn’t say if @Claude is replacing engineers, but it shows that Anthropic is using @Claude for actual work.

Anthropic’s announcement explains:

“The same pattern now extends well beyond engineering: we task Claude with researching product metrics and data, handling support tickets, or even helping to find the root cause of tricky bugs.

We’re launching Claude Tag on Slack because it’s a natural place for collaborative work between teams and AI, and where much of Anthropic’s day-to-day work already happens. It is available today in beta for Claude Enterprise and Team customers. Our goal is to expand it more widely where it’s available, so teams can tag @Claude in the many other places they work.

Claude remembers what happened on Slack channels

Anthropic said It starts with Slack where @Claude can be added as a team member that employees can tag and assign tasks to complete. @Claude can memorize information from the Slack channels to which he has been invited and use the tools to which he has access. Anthropic’s announcement claims that @Claude can create context about work the longer he stays in the Slack channel, meaning he won’t need to explain tasks repeatedly.

What businesses can really do with Claude Tag

Anthropic claims that Claude Tag can work across Slack channels, data sources, and code repositories. Administrators control the tools Claude can access and set spending limits.

Take away

Claude Tag is an example of AI agents that become part of the workplace as assistants who help employees, not as replacements for them. The longer they work, the better they are expected to become at that job. This may seem scary to some workers, so it will be interesting to see how @Claude is accepted in the workplace.
