Brainfuse Review

How much does Brainfuse pay its tutors?

Brainfuse compensation will vary depending on the subject and level of tutoring. More complex subjects and higher education roles pay more.

According to current Glassdoor data, Brainfuse general tutors typically earn between $16 to $27 per hour range, while college tutors in more specialized subjects can earn between $29 and $47 per hour.

That said, many tutors in recent reviews note that the pay seems low relative to the qualifications required and that tutor pay on Glassdoor is lower than the education industry average.

How is payment done with Brainfuse?

Payments are made by direct deposit to a bank account or by mailed check, and tutors are paid every two weeks.

What are the requirements to become a Brainfuse tutor?

Requirements vary depending on the type of tutoring role. For its higher education tutoring program, Brainfuse requires at least a master’s degree. For other tutoring roles, a bachelor’s degree may be sufficient, although this may vary.

Prior teaching or tutoring experience is required in all areas.

You must also undergo a background check as well as a reference check before you can be hired. You must also have a computer with Internet access, preferably broadband.

How does the application process work?

To work for Brainfuse, you need to send them your CV to (email protected). If they are interested, they will send you an email with instructions to begin training.

You will also be asked to send documents. If you complete their training and are hired, you can start working.

The training is minimal: just read a few documents before getting started.

What does tutoring for Brainfuse involve?

You schedule your preferred shifts to work with students. You don’t always work one-on-one: you’ll often teach more than one student in a single session, which some tutors find frustrating.

One thing to know before applying: the teams are competitive. Brainfuse tutors in different time zones are all competing for the same available schedules, and recent reviewers note that it can be difficult to get consistent schedules. This makes it a poor choice for anyone who needs a reliable, predictable weekly income from a single source.

There is also something called Instant Access (IA), which is an on-demand homework help feature where students can log in and connect with an available tutor. This can provide more spontaneous earning opportunities outside of scheduled shifts.

As might be expected, the students you supervise are not always nice and friendly. Some Brainfuse tutors report taking the oath online, and you have little or no recourse when this happens.

It’s also worth knowing that student complaints can result in account deactivation without notice or explanation, and several recent reviewers describe this as a real concern. Having a thick skin and managing expectations is important if you pursue this path.

Is it flexible work?

Yes, it’s very flexible. You are more or less able to create your own schedule, although it can sometimes be difficult to get the hours you want, especially due to the shift competition mentioned above.

As you might have guessed, work tends to dry up during summer breaks and other common academic breaks. So it’s probably not a good idea to rely on it full-time.

Does Brainfuse hire tutors outside the US?

No. All Brainfuse tutors must reside in the United States.

Final Thoughts on Brainfuse

Brainfuse currently holds a 2.9 out of 5 star rating from tutors on Glassdoor, which is 22% below the education industry average.

Recent reviews on Glassdoor and Indeed point to low pay, inconsistent schedules, competition between shifts, minimal management support, and account deactivation without warning as recurring problems.

That said, if you meet the requirements and are looking for something flexible to do from home, Brainfuse may be worth considering. Just go in with realistic expectations. Don’t count on him as your full-time remote work since you will see little or no work during the summer and other school holidays, and hours are not guaranteed even during the school year.

This can be good for a side income if you meet the requirements, but it works best as one of several income sources rather than just one.
