6 Companies Offering Remote Phone Triage Jobs for Nurses


If you are a nurse and looking to earn money from home, you might consider getting involved in telephone triage. There are companies across the country that are continually looking for qualified nurses to fill these positions.

As a home phone triage nurse, you will take patient calls, assess their various symptoms, and then help steer them in the right direction when it comes to medical care.

The pay for this type of work is competitive. According to ZipRecruiterremote telephone triage nurses earn on average about $38 per hour, with the highest earners making $45 or more. That said, this job can be stressful, especially during cold and flu season.

Salary, requirements, and benefits vary depending on who you work for.

UnitedHealth Group and its subsidiary Optum are among the nation’s largest and most consistent employers of remote nurses. They regularly post telephone triage, telephone case management, and utilization review roles in many US states.

Requirements vary by role but typically include an active registered nursing license, clinical experience, and in many cases a bachelor’s degree.

Pay typically starts around $28 per hour and increases significantly with experience and specialty. Benefits are comprehensive and include medical, dental, vision and 401k.
